If you thought you had to hang up your night club dancing shoes after you had kids, you were wrong.

Three Austin moms are trying to bring the dance party back for the mommy and daddy set with Little Lounge Lizards, a monthly bash for parents and kids 10 and under. The inaugural party is at Momo’s, 618 W. Sixth St (upstairs from Katz’s). on May 3 from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.

“We want to keep it Austin style, “ says one of the founders Suzann Vera, who also teaches at Mendez Middle school. The idea blossomed after Vera and two of her neighbors were reading an article in Entrepreneur magazine about a similar Philadelphia-based company Baby Loves Disco. “We thought, ‘We could do this here.'

Momo’s nightclub on West Sixth Street is usually not open during the day but on this particular Saturday afternoon, it’s hopping and not with the usual crowd.

Suzann Vera is the creator of Little Lounge Lizards.

“Three moms got together and decided to do a dance party because we miss going out and clubbing,” Vera explains.

Just like the good ol’ days, a DJ spins tunes and a bartender serves up drinks. The only difference is that children are part of the scene, too.

Donna Giarrantano had to check it out after hearing about the party from a friend. The bubble machine is a big hit she says.

“They have so many activities for [the children] to do here. It’s just a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon.” Giarrantano says, “It’s like a nightclub for kids during the day.”

It's like toddler disco. And just because you've
joined the ranks of parenthood, doesn't mean
you can no longer cut a rug on the dance floor
with the kids.

The Little Lounge Lizards is a dance club party
for ages 10 and under and their parents at Momo's
nightclub located at 618 W. Sixth Street. The
dance is held every first Saturday of the month
from 12:30-3:30 p.m.

A DJ spins the hits from the '70s, '80s and the '90s
and offers a fun and entertaining way to start your
Saturday.

Larissa Cowey with Little Lounge Lizards said it's
a three hour night club experience during the day.

"It allows parents to have an alternative to go out
with their kids and have experiences they had when
they were younger," she said.

Kids - and parents too - can get their disco on

They've got Saturday Afternoon Fever.

Kenya Bell put the moves on the dance floor, doing jumping jacks and hopping up and down to "Kung Fu Fighting." Donning her purple floppy hat and necklaces with peace signs, Kenya looked like she stepped out of the 1970s, though she hadn't quite turned 5.

Kenya and dozens of other kids were turning the beat around (with their moms and dads) at the most recent Little Lounge Lizards disco party, held each month at the normally adults-only Qua Bottle Lounge in downtown Austin.

"This is awesome," said Kenya's mom, Tricia Bell of Cedar Park, who had a large group to celebrate Kenya's and another relative's birthday. "I need to request James Brown, because that's her favorite."

At the monthly party, parents who might not have walked inside a nightclub since before the days of diapers and baby formula can get back in the groove, and kids can flail around to that crazy music their parents like — from "Car Wash" to the Village People... Click here to read the full article:
